English is the most useful language to learn because its use is widespread. The quicker that we can learn it the better so here are six tips to help you learn English quickly.
1: Find a Reason to be Motivated
Think about why it is important that you learn English.
Write down your reasons in a journal or in a word document. You will find that learning English quickly will become easier the more motivated you are.
During your journey to fluent English, if you find that you’re losing motivation then read your reasons again and renew your motivation to learn English quickly.
2: Write Down Your Goals
You will make faster progress if you have a clear goal in mind that you can work towards.
Goals should have a time-frame, be clear, specific, ambitious and achievable. Write them down underneath the “Reasons” that you wrote down in the above step.
For example, you might be studying for the IELTS exam so that you can go to University. You could set yourself a goal of achieving IELTS Band 6.5 within 9 months so that you can study at The University of East Anglia.
3: Match Your English Resources to Your Level
This step is important if you want to learn English quickly.
For example, if you’ve recently started your English journey then you might find that reading newspapers is a bit difficult for you. In such a case you might enjoy looking at the BBC Website, “Six Minute English.” If you’re studying American English then you will find the website, Learning English -VOA News useful. Here you will be able to find lessons ranging from Beginner to Advanced
Also, make sure that the books that you read are at the right level. They should be at a level that you understand but are challenging and teach you some new vocabulary.
For example, if you’re at Beginner Level then childrens’ books like Aesop’s Fables and Usborne’s Children Libraries are good and are excellent value for money.
Try out different English resources, discarding any that you find too easy or too hard; keep any that are just right for your current level.
4: Find English Resources that Match Your Goal
Make sure that the resources you use bring you closer to your goal.
For example, if your goal is to achieve a Band 7 in the IELTS exam then read the type of magazine articles that feature in the IELTS essay writing exam.
5: Learn New Vocabulary
Develop a wide vocabulary so that you can understand written articles and conversations.
You will enjoy learning English more if you understand the words you hear and read. A good way to develop a good vocabulary is to get and use the Anki app. This is especially useful for the IELTS exam as you can download and learn the most common words in the exam.
